This was the inaugural year for the Social Studio as it was introduced at this year’s NEXT event. The goal was to leverage ESPN The Magazine events to engage and grow the Social Media community. The main objectives were to utilize Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare and a new app called QWiPs to broaden the reach of events and further establish the Magazine as a conduit to the athletes it covers. While growing the @ESPNmag community, a social media platform was created that can be an additional, sellable asset for ESPN the Magazine in the future.
Reached over 1,595,727 people through the NEXT Social Media efforts!
A full scale Social Media Studio was created, with ESPN celebrity correspondents Marcellus Wiley and Charissa Thompson, set in a highly visible area at the 2012 NEXT Event. ESPN The Magazine branding was placed in strategic locations on the set to ensure high visibility within QWiPs and other event photos. All guests were encouraged to interact within the Studio and capture content that could be seen throughout the social media community.
